Enjoy the Benefits of Working for Washington
We
offer a total work/life package of pay, benefits, flexibility and
workplace opportunities to help you get the most out of your career and
out of life.
Total Compensation
Your paycheck is just part of your total compensation package.
Employees also have access to an outstanding employee benefits package
worth about 30% of your salary.
Insurance
As a state employee, you and your family would be covered by high-value
medical, dental, and vision insurance. The state’s low employee premiums
make high-quality insurance plans affordable. Basic life and long-term
disability insurance plans are also provided by the state. Additional
insurance coverage, like auto insurance, is available to state employees
at reduced rates.
Retirement
We offer an excellent retirement plan, which includes employer
contributions. In addition, employees may participate in a Deferred
Compensation program for tax-deferred retirement investment.
Flexibility
Many agencies provide flexible work hours (flex-time) and telecommuting
options. While most state agency employers offer an 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
schedule, many state organizations are open 24 hours per day, 7 days a
week, and provide employees with a wider variety of shift options.
Vacation and Leave
Leave benefits include 12-22 days of vacation per year; 11 paid
holidays; 12 days of paid sick leave per year; newborn, adoptive, and
emergency child care leave; leave without pay for maternity and
education; paid leave for jury or other civil duties and leave for
military service. Qualified employees may also donate leave to assist
others through an extended absence.
Professional Advancement
Employees are eligible for periodic cost-of-living increases, as well as
increases based on longevity or career growth. Find opportunities for
advancement within your own agency, or you choose to move to another
state agency. As an employee of a large organization, you can take
advantage of the wide range of promotional opportunities throughout
state government.
Growth Opportunities
Take advantage of extensive career and personal growth opportunities.
Hundreds of workshops, seminars, and other training opportunities are
offered each year to build employee skills and develop management
capacity. In-training programs, rotational assignments and tuition
reimbursement provide further potential for personal and career growth.
Organized Philanthropy
Each year thousands of state employees make a difference in their
communities by voluntarily supporting charities through an organized
giving program called the Washington State Combined Fund Drive (CFD). By
contributing through the CFD, you can choose the charities, determine
the amount to give each charity, and have the convenience of automatic
payroll deduction.
Dependent Care
The
Dependent Care Assistance Program provides a simple, efficient, and
inexpensive way to help you pay your dependent care expenses. It reduces
your taxable income, your income tax liability and your Social Security
taxes.
Employee Assistance
Sometimes a personal or work-related problem may impair job performance.
Employees may seek confidential, professional help with such problems
through the
Employee Assistance Program at no charge for this
assistance.
